Mallie's story

These are the last photos Canberran Mallie Taylor has with her husband Matthew before he died.

Matthew was denied a lung transplant on two occasions because doctors decided he was too healthy and didn't need one. The third time he was assessed, it was too late.

His death was devastating for Mallie, who yesterday took part in the annual Gift for Life walk.

"It was too late to help him but we thought that if there was anything we could do to keep a couple from going through what we went through, where I lost my husband, my soul mate," she said.
