Register for Gift of Life’s DonateLife Walk 2014

Join thousands of Canberrans for Gift of Life’s DonateLife Walk on Wednesday 26 February 2014 and show your support for organ and tissue donation.

Two simultaneous walks will be held, the normal bridge-to-bridge walk as well as a shorter option. Participants should gather at Regatta Point at 6.45am with both walks kicking off at 7am sharp from the same start point. Click here to view a map of the walks

The bridge-to-bridge circuit of Lake Burley Griffin takes about 45 minutes to an hour and the shorter walk goes around Commonwealth Park and takes about 25 minutes.

Both walks finish with a free healthy breakfast run by the Lions Club of Belconnen. You can walk or run at your own pace, and pets, children and friends are welcome.

You can participate as an individual, or get a team of friends or workmates together and walk for a worthy cause. You can take part on the day without registering, but by signing up online you’ll receive information in advance and resources to help you spread the word about organ and tissue donation in your own communities.

Terry Connolly

Justice Terry Connolly died suddenly in the early morning of 25 September 2007 on Red Hill, having cycled to the top as part of his exercise routine.  He was a Supreme Court Judge since 2003, and Master since 1996.  Terry was the Member for Molonglo in 1990-1995 and served as the ACT Attorney-General and Minister in various portfolios, including Health.  He and his family have lived in Canberra for many years and he was a popular Canberran.

More importantly, Terry was a husband, father, son and, following his death, a tissue donor.

Terry’s wife, Dr Helen Watchirs, says that she and Terry had discussed their wishes in relation to organ donation.  This meant that at the dreadful time of death, she was clear on his wishes.  Terry’s donation to the improvement of other lives has given Helen and his daughters a sense of contribution, and has helped make up for a life cut short.
