Gift of Life’s DonateLife Walk – Canberra’s largest community event in support of the national DonateLife campaign – is on once again. The walk is taking place on Wednesday 1 March 2017 and registrations are now open!

Organised by Gift of Life and sponsored by the Organ and Tissue Authority, this event helps raise awareness of the importance of organ and tissue donation and involves thousands of Canberrans every year.

So please join us and show your support for organ and tissue donation by taking part in Gift of Life’s DonateLife Walk 2017. By participating, you help spread the word about becoming an organ and tissue donor, and encourage others to discuss and register their donation decisions.

Two simultaneous walks will be held, the standard bridge-to-bridge walk around the lower basin of Lake Burley Griffin as well as a shorter option around the National Library of Australia. Participants should gather at the Patrick White Lawns between the National Library of Australia and the lake at 6.45am with both walks kicking off at 7am sharp from the same start point. Click here to download a map of both walks.

The bridge-to-bridge circuit of Lake Burley Griffin takes about 45 minutes to an hour and the shorter walk takes about 15-20 minutes.

You can walk or jog at your own pace, and pets, children and friends are very welcome. There’s even a free barbecue breakfast afterwards! Free t-shirts, hats and show bags will be available for participants – quantities are limited, first come best dressed.

Everyone from politicians, sporting and other personalities, business leaders, Australian Defence Force personnel and Government staff are supporting the walk, as well as local school college and university students and community groups.

Participating in Gift of Life’s DonateLife Walk 2017 is a great way to show your support for organ and tissue donation and by signing onto the Australian Organ Donor Register managed by Human Services/Medicare.

Gift of Life’s DonateLife Walk 2017 involves participants walking or jogging on formed pedestrian paths and clear grass areas with direction marshals stationed at a number of points along the walk. Participants are also asked to be considerate of other walkers and cyclists who also use the paths. While reasonable foreseeable risks have been addressed, involvement in this public event is at each participant’s own risk. You will need to take all reasonable measures to protect yourself from risks of participation.

By submitting the registration form you release Gift of Life Incorporated and event manager Morris Walker (and their directors, officers, employees, volunteers, contractors, sponsors and/or agents) from any claim and liability (to the extent permitted by law) for or as a result of any loss, injury or damage suffered in relation to your attendance and participation at the event, whatever the cause.

Register now for the walk – it’s free!
